Basketball season in Bloomington is back. The Hoosiers had a successful home opener against Chicago State on November 6th. More than 17,000 people piled into Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to witness the first win of the season. The talk of the night was freshman and fan favorite, Romeo Langford, who gave the Hoosiers a nice lead, putting up 19 points. The Hoosiers led the Cougars most of the game, and by the end of the first half, the Hoosiers were up 51-23.
Although they led most of the game, their shots did not always connect. TheHoosiers missed 14 points from missed free throws. However, the Hoosiers did not let that keep them from a win. They made up the points they lost. Four team members scored points into the double digits, and two players had a slew of successful rebounds. Strong defensive players, like Devonte Green, helped to secure a 104-55 win over the Cougars.
This is the second season under head coach Archie Miller. Last winter, the Hoosiers did not get as far as they had hoped. Coach Miller said in this first game of the new season, the team made some unselfish plays and did a great job of keeping control of the ball.
Archie Miller also said that getting the first game out of the way with a win will hopefully give the team momentum moving forward. The Indiana Hoosiers take on the Montana State Bobcats November 9th at 8pm right here at Assembly Hall.
