On set with ‘The Price is Right’

Having only been in Los Angeles a month, I’ve already made enough memories to last a lifetime. One of my favorite experiences has been when my roommates and I attended a “The Price is Right” taping.

The taping was an incredibly lengthy process. After arriving at CBS Studios and checking in, fans received their very own iconic yellow name tag to wear during the show. Next, hopeful winners lined up in a holding area where they waited to be interviewed. Each interview group — about 15-20 people —  introduced themselves to the show’s casting director. Afterward, the excited group waited in a separate holding area where they watched a prior episode of the show. Once everyone had been interviewed, they finally made their way onto the set.

My roommates and I were lucky enough to be selected to sit in the front row during the taping. We had so much fun helping the contestants with their bidding prices, and it felt incredibly surreal to be at a show we had grown up watching. During the episode, a woman won a $20,000 jackpot prize, and the two contestants in the Showcase Showdown overbid, which are both rarities.

It was also entertaining to meet a wide range of people at the taping — from a couple celebrating their honeymoon to an elderly man who has attended more than 200 shows. One girl who sat next to us ended up being chosen as a contestant.

If you ever find yourself looking for something to do in Los Angeles, I would definitely recommend seeing a taping of “The Price is Right.” The tickets are free, and you may wind up winning a new car.
