A glimpse into city life

My time in Los Angeles was cut short, but not before I had the chance to soak up all the city could offer, especially at my internship. I interned with Narrative Public Relations, an agency representing some of the top names in the Hollywood acting scene.

This gave me the opportunity to explore entertainment PR up close every week. Every day, I got to field calls and update materials for artists I have looked up to my entire life. I’ve wanted to go into PR since I was 14, and this was my first opportunity to experience entertainment PR up close and get a solid idea of what my life could look like after graduation.

One of the best parts of my internship was the chance to speak one-on-one with a publicist and junior publicist about their careers. These conversations gave me personal takes on what life in public relations is like and how to best further my career in this industry. Going to L.A. was the best way for me to gain this knowledge and make personal connections that will serve me well once I graduate and become part of the field.

Getting away from Bloomington for a semester also gave me a trial run of living in a city. With the traffic issues and constant noise, it was a world away from what I am used to, but in a good way. I know now that I can handle city living and that I want to, at least for a few years.

Though I had to leave earlier than I wanted to, I gained a lot of experience from my time in Los Angeles. I can’t wait to go back and start my life there someday soon.
