After a day of soccer practice and touring cultural landmarks, our group met up with Mexico City-based alumni at a restaurant called China Girl. We learned a lot more about the cultural aspects of Mexico City and what the culture means to the alumni.

IU soccer player and Media School student John Bannec might have been the highlight of the night. He performed the song “Shallow” from the movie “A Star is Born” with a female singer at the restaurant. The duet was spectacular, and it made a lot of people crack up, including myself.

We wrapped up the night back at the hotel with the team, where we interviewed Sean Caulfield and Simon Waever. Waever is a transfer from Evansville who will be crucial to the team’s success next season as a transfer student.

We learned more about his life in Denmark, where he’s originally from and what brought him to Bloomington.
