“There’s nothing like it on campus yet…and we wanted to combine philanthropy and this unique idea,” Royal Encounters founders Haley Sample and Emily Boehm explain.

It’s a hot Saturday in September, and the Indiana University Football Game is going on less than a mile away. Members of Royal Encounters meet in the basement of a member’s sorority house to commence the lengthy task of turning into the princesses and super heroes we know and love.

This is not your everyday barbershop. Instead of a classy building off of Kirkwood, the barber does business in a back-of-the-woods garage. Instead of a singing quartet, a mobile speaker drums out popular hip-hop beats. Don’t be fooled by the humble appearance of his establishment however – this barber has built a successful small business plying his trade to an ever growing number of customers.

A Greenhouse Bringing Life to Bloomington

Indiana University’s Jordan Hall Greenhouses are an extension of the University’s biology building. The windows of the greenhouses showcase an array of towering, dark green plants. Located on Third Street near a popular bus stop on campus, students often pass the mysterious glass windows in a hurry to get to class. Other students pass intending on visiting during their years in Bloomington, Indiana. The outside of the building gives only a hint of what is being cultivated inside. No matter what the weather, incredible vegetation is living and growing.

You’re sitting at the bar. Nothing but loud conversations and Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” playing somewhere in the background. You’re shoulder to shoulder with men and women here for the same reason as you, to get away. Whether it’s to escape the stress of a job, a celebration, or just catching up, you all found yourselves at the only tequila bar in town, the Salty Cowboy.

Jagged lines, prison-bar strings from floor to ceiling, and a black, avant-garde set rarely come to mind when one imagines the world of theatre. Many envision theatre as an escape from the trials of reality. However, one Indiana University director is tasked with telling a disturbing, less-idealistic tale of marginalization.

Living in an unfamiliar, overcrowded, dingy shelter can put an unnecessary amount of stress on homeless cats. Nine Lives Cat Cafe in Indianapolis, however, is working to provide these cats with a better temporary home- in an ingenious way.

Speaking Out by Walking It Out

Waving your blue pom-poms is the new clapping. Organization walks are typically a common fundraiser and awareness event for many different causes nationwide, but once you stepped foot and submerged yourself into the Autism Speaks Walk’s atmosphere, it was apparently clear why it so strongly and uniquely spoke to all those passionate enough to get involved. This was quite the afternoon filled with smiles, bright eyes, high hopes, and communal bonding. Even the sky shown bright blue for Autism.
