Flower Mouth is a rock and roll band in Bloomington, Indiana made out of four members, Blake McKean, Chris Koj, Gus Gonzalez, and Jonathan Jeffrey Van Hecke. The band was formally called The Kojos when it was first created in Terra Haute, Indiana by Chris, Gus, and Blake, who attended the same high school. Starting off as a way to get together and make memories, they had realized how important it was to them to create and perform music together. After some time being together as a band they decided to move elsewhere to try and create a following.

Dough scoopers sit on one of two of Baked! of Bloomington’s cookie-preparing stations. The scoopers are in the midst of a calm atmosphere before the oncoming storm of peak-hour calls.

When one wanders the small town of Bloomington, they might find themselves trekking down Kirkwood Avenue, admiring the quaint shops on the area of Indiana University’s campus where all of the action seems to be. Baked! of Bloomington however, is situated on 1115 N. Washington St. just a walk away, and experiences quite an aggregate of action of its own—especially during peak hours of 12 a.m.-4 a.m. Baked! offers up a plethora of remedies for the sweet tooth of Bloomington locals, students, and visitors alike.

Tantalizing aromas and inviting chatter fill the air as crowds of people gather at the Bloomington Community Farmers Market. Aside from what farmer’s market vendors are typically known for such as produce, flowers, and bakery stations, there are also vendors who offer amazing selections of unusual things that you can’t find anywhere else!

Among all these vendors, Becky Vadas, bee farmer and producer, stands outside of her “Local Honey” booth offering sample taste testers of her product to wandering crowds.

Wayne Highfield, a 21 year old student at IUPUI, loves the way the brain works. He is fascinated by all of the things the brain can do, including things that we take for granted like the ability to see. This neuroscience student has turned this obsession into a media production company where he shoots both pictures and video. He loves looking at everyday activities and coming up with a variety of ways to make them visually appealing to your average person.

If you’re a true Indiana Hoosier, chances are you’ve heard of the largest collegiate bike race in the country that takes place right in the heart of Bloomington, Indiana each April. Fans gather from near and far to participate in what has been considered as the “Greatest College Weekend in America”. Yes, I am talking about the Little 500, where the cyclists who train year-round finally get the chance to put their skills to the ultimate test. Yet while many of us undoubtedly appreciate the race in all its glory from the stands, we can easily overlook the amount of work and training that goes on behind the scenes to makes it all possible.

While the rest of Bloomington is just waking during the wee hours of the morning, the kitchen of La Vie en Rose is bristling with activity. The kitchen is warm from the heat of the ovens and the two chefs bustling around the cramped room. Sweet and savory smells bombard the nose when walking into the space. Yes, the rest of Bloomington might just be rising out of bed, but at a cafe and bakery, the day is brimming with life.

A sizable crowd gathers at City Hall Plaza in downtown Bloomington on a sunny mid-September afternoon. Children play games, dogs scamper around excitedly, and volunteers hand out colorful flower-shaped pinwheels. Bright purple, blue, yellow, and orange pinwheels litter the plaza as a woman rallies the mass of people. It is the 2018 Bloomington Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This event occurs annually in more than six hundred communities nationwide, making it the world’s largest fundraising event for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

Subtle scents of freshly-washed linens, ink, and newspaper linger in a room that doubles as an art studio and apartment living room. In the duo-purpose room, a drafting table sits with bits of linoleum, sketches of designs drawn onto paper, and art supplies including ink, a paint-roller, tape, and a heat-press piled onto it. Posters line the walls of the studio and contribute to a feeling of creativity.

This is where Analiese Causey creates art and established her own business.
