Stage Flight Circus Arts Soaring to New Heights

Have you ever thought about dropping everything and going off to join the circus? Well that might be much more possible than previously thought for Bloomington residents thanks to the presence of Stage Flight Circus Arts.

Stage Flight Circus Arts is a studio in Bloomington Indiana owned by Clint and Hannah Bobzien that specializes in training in a variety of disciplines under the circus arts umbrella. The studio also features a performance group that is currently preparing for a jungle themed performance.

Clint and Hannah  Bobzien have been professional acrobats for nearly twenty years with both of them having an extensive gymnastics and diving background. The pair actually met at Bloomington High School North because they were both on the diving team and eventually began dating. After graduating from college, the pair went on to perform in a variety of places including all over Asia with various American circus groups, and on Broadway multiple times. “While being abroad doing what we loved was fun, Clint and I both knew we needed to return home,” said Hannah Bobzien.

Clint and Hannah Bobzien founded Stage Flight Circus Arts three years ago and started off with three students in a homeschool group but now they have 87 students that they teach on a weekly basis in a large warehouse. “It’s been unreal how fast it’s grown. I would never have imagined that we would have this much interest in the studio so fast but I’m glad it’s happening” said Clint Bobzien.  Due to the rapid growth of students, the studio moved into a large warehouse to accommodate for all the equipment and individuals last January and it has allowed them to teach their student’s more advanced things and expose them to new skills they couldn’t practice in the previous space.

The increase of students has also allowed Clint and Hannah to hire seven more teachers to help them. These teachers come from many different backgrounds and each of them brings something new to the studio. One of these teachers is Teal Larsen who has been with Stage Flight Circus Arts for about two years and she has taught trapeze, aerial silks, aerial hoop, stilt walking and much more at resorts and studios around the country and now she uses her vast experience to teach at Stage Flight. “It’s really become like a second home to me and I’m so glad I was given the chance to join this awesome team of talented individuals,” said Larsen.

The studio has also started a performing group that features some of their best students and teachers and they perform at various venues in Bloomington throughout the year. The group is currently rehearsing for a jungle themed performance at the Buskirk- Chumley Theatre on May 25th.

While some individuals at the studio have been training for their whole lives the Bobziens want to emphasize that it’s never too late to learn a new skill and encourage anyone on the fence to come to their studio for open gym night on Wednesdays and see what they’re all about. So, if you have or are now contemplating joining the circus now you know that that opportunity is not so far away.
