The Essence of Giving Back

The IU Essence Dance team takes stage, not only to showcase their talents and dance moves, but to collect clothing  for those in need.

Last Saturday,  Essence performed their first showcase at the Neil-Marshall Black Culture Center in the grand hall. With an abundance of holiday spirit having Christmas right around the corner, they decided to exhibit their performance as a fundraiser for families and children in the non-profit organization, Girls Inc..  All entrance fees went towards their cause and audience members were encouraged to bring new winter clothing to the show. Together, the hip-hop team raised over seven hundred dollars and filled multiple bins with clothing to help give back to their community.

The team’s goal is to express with dance, destress,  feel free, and of course, to put on spontaneous shows for their audience members. They welcome any and all students to join their family and is holding a workshop for those interested in the beginning of next semester to learn what Essence is all about and what they have to offer!
